Nerima Daikon Brothers Review

Another wacky anime head by director Nabeshin! (Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemy) This times it Nerima Daikon Bros. It centers around two brothers Hideki and Ichijiro and their cousin Mako. The three of them live on a daikon field in the middle of Nerima where they practice their songs. Their dream is to build a concert dome on that land and sing their songs in it.

This show is one of the silliest things I ever seen. It an anime musical comedy which is rare and it’s gimmick. The music is recycled but different lyrics are put in for the situation. It’s still catchy as heck and I found myself singing along to the rental song.

The format is the usual problem with money, situation comes up, they get money and lose the money. It doesn’t get tiring because of the fast pace and side characters. Along with the sexual innuendo jokes and low brow humor you really don’t have to think while watching this. Near the end the show takes a different turn. Slightly dramatic and going into the past. Basically it goes into a story of family united under a dream. All because of the most nonsensical final boss villain ever.

The style is simple is bright. Much different than the style used with Puni Puni and Excel. Nabeshin still makes an appearance as the rental man. The animation is still good though and fits the mood of this anime.

All in all check this out for some laughs. Pop this in if you just want give your mind a rest with anime. Sing along if you can sing. If you can’t sing please just listen.
